Transforming My 'Recently Acquired' Dress Form!

I love dress forms, especially vintage ones!  They are so beautiful in an old-fashioned way.  Recently, I have been on the hunt for a vintage dress form to add to my craft show display and use for photos, etc.  At my latest craft show, I kept my eyes peeled.  First of all, the craft shows that I do are called Forever Vintage Markets, and they are not your average craft shows!  Actually, a majority of the vendors do not even sell crafts but rather vintage items.  Depending on where you live, you might call these vendors "pickers" or "junkers."  There are still vendors like me who sell handmade items, but in order to be accepted into the show, your items and overall booth theme need to fit in with the mood of the show.  So when I say I was looking for a dress form at a craft show, you know that it was an actual possibility that the vendors would sell them.

I came across about 4-5 dress forms while I was walking around pre-show opening.  Most of these dress forms though were $150-$180! Although I understand that they are becoming a rarity, I still didn't want to splurge that much on one!  But, on my way back to my own booth, I came across an amazing dress form that was only $85.  That still might sound a bit pricey, but I really wanted one.  As it was the lowest price dress form at the show, I went ahead and purchased it from the vendor before the show opened so as not to miss out on a great opportunity!

Here is what my dress form looked like (before I "transformed" it):

The dress form itself is very neat because its size can be adjusted, and more importantly for me, the height of the base can be adjusted! I just personally didn't like the two-toned color for displaying my jewelry.  I tried putting some necklaces on it, but they just didn't stand out and there was too much to look at.  I've seen old dress forms "mod podged" with papers before, so I decided to do that with old book pages.  It was a long process to adhere book pages to the entire thing, but I love the result!  I also added a crystal doorknob to the top of the neck for some vintage glam!

Here is what my dress form looks like now:

So after many, many book pages and almost an entire bottle of Mod Podge, my dress form is a perfect prop for craft shows (and looks really cool stored in my craft room!).  I love it and I can't wait to take it to my next show.  I wonder how many people will ask if it is for sale?!?

Stay tuned for more posts like this! I think my next post will be about clearing out my craft room which is a project I'm currently working on.  Have a great day!
